|Jonny B & The Blues Blazers
is a high energy harmonica driven blues band with a “twist. Notably, they are
recipients of a Council for the Arts & Humanities performance Award for 2002.
Their unique blend of high-energy harmonica driven blues music promises
to be a crowd pleaser wherever they perform.
JONNY B & The BLUES BLAZERS - was formed in late 1996 out of the
bands mutual love for the blues music and performed for their first concert the fall of 1997.
We felt that there was a void and a need for fast paced, hard driving, high energy
harmonica based pop/blues music in the NYC Tri-State area and thus, a band was born!
The bands repertoire spans over 40 years, and includes a combination of cover and
The band has performed in, and headlined, numerous venues, concert series & festivals
throughout the Tri-State area. They were one of only two bands selected to perform in the
NYC Dept of Cultural Affairs sponsored event, CultureFest 2002 held in Bryant Park, and
2003 & 2005, held in Battery Park, NY that was attended by thousands.
They have also opened for varied performers including C.J. Chenier & The Red Hot
Louisiana Band, the “Crown Prince of Zydeco,” folk legend Pete Seeger & The Spyro Gyro
All Star Band. Additionally, the band has received a performing arts award from the Staten
Island Council for the Arts & Humanities.
The band has been honored to be selected regional semi-finalists & regional finalists for 4
nonconsecutive years by the Jersey Shore Jazz & Blues Foundation, for the 2006 & 2007,
2009 & 2010 International Blues Challenge finishing in second pace respectively.
Since the bands inception, Jonny B & The Blues Blazers has been picking up momentum,
enjoying local name recognition and a growing fan following. They have built a reputation
as hard working, dedicated musicians who perform with an intensity that audiences
appreciate. The band promises to be a crowd pleaser wherever they perform. In fact,
dancing during one of their performances is a clear indication that everyone, including the
band, is having a good time!
2011 - International distribution company selects Jonny B & The Blues Blazers song "There Goes The Neighborhood"
for inclusion on the "Absolute NY Blues" compilation for worldwide release. August 27th - Asked back for a 2nd
performance at the Long Branch Jazz & Blues Festival.

international Blues Challenge finishing in second place respectively.

2008 - February - Performance at the renowned historic St George Theatre, Headliner for the "Best of The Blues" -our

2005 - Auditioned for, and was featured in opening of New York segment of NBC show "America's Got Talent."
2005 - Headliner, The Red Bank NJ Jazz & Blues in The Park Concert Series
2005 - In September - we were again honored to be invited by the City of New York to perform in Battery Park, NY as
part of CultureFest 2005. The band was in fact, only one of two bands in all of New York City asked to perform at this
event and shared the stage with the likes of the Metropolitan Opera! We received a warm welcome and performed to
an enthusiastic audience numbered in the thousands.
2003 - In September - we were honored to be invited by the City of New York to perform in Battery Park, NY as part of
2002 - In February - the band won a performing arts award from The Staten Island Council for The Arts & Humanities.
This prestigious recognition capped off a year of hard work and discipline.
2002 - February - opened for the internationally known “Crown Prince of Zydeco,” C.J. Chenier & The Red Hot
Louisiana Band at The Center for the Arts, Staten Island, a 900 seat auditorium.
2002 - In June 2002 - the band performed in Battery Park following an appearance by folk legend Pete Seeger, for the
re dedication ceremony of Governor's Island back to the City of New York. (The bands other opening act credits
include; Desiree, Lynda Nader, Amber, Beatlemania & The Thunderclub (Spyro Gyro) All Star Band).
2002 - In September 2002 - the band performed at the NYC sponsored event, CultureFest in Bryant Park, and was the
only band featured on the CBS Nightly News segment that evening, described as "world class talent."
2001 - November - performed for a number of 9/11 benefits including the NYC wide;
"Straight From The Arts Benefit Concert."2007 - Selected regional semi-finalists & regional finalists by the Jersey

1997 - November - Jonny B & the Blues Blazers perform their first gig at Dock of the Bay on Staten Island, NY.
1996 - Spring - Jonny B & the Blues Blazers is formed with Jonny B & Jeff Katz as founding members.
Jonny B (harp/vocals) - Is a singer/songwriter/performer who has been involved in the music scene for
better than 30 years and has been playing harmonica for well over 35 years. His playing is both unique and
refreshing as he states; "I like to push the limits of the instrument without becoming repetitious or redundant." Jon
has had to his credit, one of his compositions recorded by singer; Mike Garrigan. Mick Taylor and Nicky Hopkins (of
The Rolling Stones fame) perform on the song with Cher singing backup on the album. Jon had been part of the
pop/rock /blues scene for years before devoting his efforts to this project. He has played many clubs in & around
NYC and has sat in with some of NY's local legends.
Jon Specter (guitar/vocals) - Jon has played with some of the great legends of blues music, performing
with the likes of: Otis Rush, Big Mamma Thorton, Lightning Hopkins, J. B. Hutto, Dr. John, Champion Jack Dupree,
Johnny Johnson, The Neville Brothers, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Pinetop Perkins as well as Sam & Dave, Ronnie
Baker Brooks, Jaco Pastorious, Poppa Chubby, Buddy Miles and The Chambers Brothers to name a few. Jon joined
The Dave Keyes Band in the early 1990's & went on to win The International Blues Challenge title "Best Unsigned
Band In the United States" in Memphis, Tenn. for the year 2000. In 1999, he joined the David Johanson Band. He has
been involved with a number of projects including; Queen Tipsy & The Kosmic Blues Band. Jon Specter joined Jonny
B & The Blues Blazers in 2001.
Moby Medina (Bass/Vocals) - Moby is the newest member of the Blues Blazers. He is an accomplished
musician who has strummed around the music scene for years. In 1969, he was signed by ABC records & recorded
his 1st album with the band Maximillion (w/Jerry Nolan & Buddy Bowzer of the NY Dolls). He then toured extensively
w/Curthis Knight (Jimi Hendrix was a prior member). Following that stint, he moved London, England playing with
various popular bands. Since returning to the USA, Moby has played with many name acts recording, touring &
Nat Seeley (Drums/Percussion) - has been involved in music since he was a child, having played
trumpet from childhood through high school. He has studied drumming with various teachers/performers including:
Titos Sampa, Freddie Waits, Charles Persip, Joseph Piazza, Pablo Landrum, Colon Bros., Sam Ulano and John
Amira. He has performed with various bands and performers in the U.S. and overseas. Nat has been a part of the
(previously The All Night Lovers or The Karlus Trapp Band), Stapleton Latin Jazz Band, the Waldorf Astoria House
Trio, Lonesome Debonaires and Queen Tipsy. He is a very talented musician who adds a refreshing dynamic energy
to Jonny B & The Blues Blazers.
Jeff Katz (Guitar/vocals) - Jeff has been part of the foundation of Jonny B & The Blues Blazers since it's
inception 10 years ago. Jeff has been part of the foundation of Jonny B & The Blues Blazers since it's inception 10
years ago. Jeff played piano as a child & discovered guitar in his teens. He has toured & recorded as a member of
the pop band "Jel." In 2003, he left the band Jel, to compose. He has done extensive session work as well as
recording his own material. His focus is now with Jonny B & The Blues Blazers as we try to nail down & record the
Blues Blazers CD. Jeff remains a integral member of the band, gigging with us whenever his schedule allows.
